Feature Selection

Once you've toggled a selection tool, you can click on a location, or select an area, the features of which will become highlighted. The highlighted features' attributes will appear at the bottom of the explorer. When multiple features are selected, their numbers (Rec #) are highlighted as links so you can specifically select one feature if desired. Also in these attribute tables may be other highlighted links (specifically in data layers) that allow you to access other data related to that feature. This outside data may be a website link, or hard data that can be queried, sorted, and/or downloaded.

GIS Data Layers

On the right side of the map you will find a selection of categorized "layers". Each layer portrays a certain type of information. Each of these layers can be made 'visible' or not visible by selecting the appropriate checked box and pressing the 'refresh' button. Additionally, toggling the 'active' circle on any particular layer allows you to select features within them using the tools in the top left toolbar, thus allowing you to view information about layer features selected. Categorized information layers include:

  • Data - Layers in this category have links associated with features that have been selected, leading to data that may be accessed, queried, and/or downloaded.
  • Geographic - Layers in this category display information such as physical geographic features, base boundaries, and roads. These are fundamental to orientation for map users, and to display important hydrologic features of the watershed.
  • Themes - Layers in this category portray a specific map theme for user reference, but has no linked or other data associated with it.
